Journey to the cradle of hominids, the hottest place on earth, the lowest point on the planet, Denakil Depression. Discover this geology paradise gone-wild as you stand in awe at its flaming volcanoes, burning magma lakes, mineral deposits, and acid pools, caravan traders and Afar Tribe.
Morning flight to Mekele/Semera Town. Up on arrival, welcomed by our guide and driver. Then begin your adventurous journey of Danakil Depression by driving to Hamedela over the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley system to the western highland. Lunch at Beraile town. Arrival at Hamede’Ela, see camel caravans passing against a backdrop of dramatic sunsets. Overnight Camping.
In the morning drive to Lake Asele and visit the thousands of camel caravans and the rock salt mining. Then drive further to Dallol Cobber Sink; the lowest spot-on earth’s surface not covered by water (-116m below sea level) enjoy the spectacular view the dramatic and colorful geological formations caused by the hot springs rich in sulfur, potash, and salt. Then, drive to the living Volcano, Erta’Alle, which means "smoking mountain” in the local Afar language. In the late afternoon, dinner will be served, and trek to the top volcanic mountain for night observation of the dramatic magma eruption at the crater of Erta’Alle Volcano. Overnight camping.
In the early morning, take the morning observation of the volcano and then trek back, breakfast will be servied, and return to Mekele/Semera town. On the way, drive to Afdera to visit the salt lake of Lake Afdera. Here you will have a sort time for swimming and relax and refreshment. Then proceed to Mekele/Semera Airport to flight back to Addis. According to your evening flight schedule fly back to Addis Ababa. End of the trip.
